The mission of the Hasbrouck Heights HS/MS School Counseling Department is to provide academic, college and career readiness, and social/emotional services for all students. The school counseling activities and interventions are aimed at supporting student success, inspiring lifelong personal growth, and helping develop young citizens that make meaningful contributions to society.
A school counselor is a counselor and an educator who works in elementary, middle, and high schools to support the academic, personal/social, and career development of all students. This is done through a program that includes:
- Classroom and school-wide events to educate students on academic, college and career, and social/emotional issues
- Coordination and consultation with students, teachers, families, and others
- Small group and individual counseling, on a short-term basis, to help students develop new skills to use at school and at home
- Connecting families to community resources for additional counseling or other services needed
