Hoops for Heart program

This year we will be starting the Hoops for Heart program at Hasbrouck Heights Middle School. Many of you will remember the Jump Rope for Heart program from Euclid and Lincoln elementary schools, which were also sponsored by the American Heart Association. Similarly, Hoops for Heart is an event that is dedicated to being physically active and heart healthy by playing the sport of basketball with classmates and friends. It will also be a celebration of all of the hard work that our Junior Aviators have done to help raise money in support of the American Heart Association. Hoops for Heart will take place on Friday, February 16th, 2018 for all students in grades 6 through 8, which will be the last school day before our Winter Recess.

On Feb. 16th, each grade level will be designated a two-period block to participate in the Hoops for Heart program. The students will have pre-selected teams of four, which will be organized by the Physical Education staff. There will be a continuous rotation of 4-on- 4 basketball games in both the OLD GYM and NEW GYM, so that we can maximize playing time while utilizing multiple courts at one time. The students and their teammates may come up with creative themes to dress up to in celebration of the great deeds that they have done in raising funds for the American Heart Association. Music will be playing and everyone will be encouraged to have a great time!

DONATIONS: All Junior Aviators have been instructed to raise money and collect donations completely online. Each student has been taught how to log in to the American Heart Association website with their very own Username and Password. This is how the students will access their individual donation page. Also, start-up instructions have been attached to this email for those students who were not able to log in during class. Once they log in, the website provides directions on how to send out emails and links to ask friends and relatives for donations.

In order to eliminate the exchange of cash and/or checks, we are requiring that any funds raised as part Hoops for Heart be done through the online website/donation page, which is regulated by the American Heart Association directly. If you have any questions regarding the Hoops for Heart program, please contact Ms. Ferranti at ferrantijac@hhschools.org
