High School Club Offerings:
 
High School Art Club: Advisor- Mrs. Kritzer
Art Club is an organization for students who want to extend their talent through visual arts experiences outside the classroom, and to contribute to the school through art. You do not need to be currently enrolled in an art class to be part of the group. We will meet on the fourth Wednesdays of each month to learn new skills and techniques, to provide studio time for students to work on classroom assignments, and to help promote the arts both in the school and community.  The art club is responsible to design and create sets for plays provided by the drama club.
 
The Italian Club: Advisor – Mrs. Washburn
The Italian club explores and helps us better understand the Italian Culture, lifestyle, and history as well as the language and customs.  It also lets the students acknowledge Italian tradition while enjoying different cultural experiences.  Members of the club come together to share experiences and become more enriched in the Italian education.  It positively affects the students’ lives and gives them memorable high school moments that will never be forgotten.  It really shows us how to be proud of our heritage and shows respect and tolerance to other cultures.
 
Italian Club Activities:
Annual assembly at the elementary schools, singing Italian Christmas Carols;
Trips to areas of cultural importance like Madam Tussaud’s Wax museum;
Annual Italian dinner with various songs and recitations about a preferred topic (i.e. Italian history, ancestors)

SAT/ACT Prep Course: Advisor- Mr. Cassano
Students will work on developing test-taking skills as they prepare for the upcoming SAT and ACT standardized assessments.  Topics from both the verbal (language arts) and mathematics sections will be discussed.  Students will be provided with assorted practice materials aimed at helping them develop problem solving strategies. 
*Meeting Dates/Times: The course will meet once per week starting in February, leading up to the May SAT.  More specific dates to come. 
 
Spanish Club: Advisor- Mrs. Squillace (Room 322)
The Spanish Club offers numerous activities for students to want to experience hands on the culture of Spanish Speaking countries. The Club targets students that are currently studying Spanish but it is open to the entire school body. We do a lot of great and fun activities throughout the year such as celebration of the Day of the Dead, preparing holiday cards for patients in a hospital, Cinco de Mayo hallway decorations and celebration, pen pal in Spanish, learn Spanish dances, Carnival and others. The club is for students that are interested in learning the language culture and language. The meetings are conducted in English with a bit of "Español" in room 322 the second Wednesday of every month. We hope to see you there, nos vemos!

Model U.N Club: Advisor Mr. Warren
 The Model U.N. participates in debate style arguments centered around current and past world events.  The club competes with schools in the North Jersey/New York area.  Students conduct research on topics that are offered by various conferences in the region.  Students will meet to practice and solidify their respective debate style and collaborate with each other.  Meeting dates to be announced.
 
Student Activities Club: Advisor- Mr. Warren
 This student centered club will plan and execute school events during and after school (including occasional weekends) that hold educational and entertainment value.  The goal of the club is to create activities that students want to participate in with their peers, faculty, and family.  This creates a sense of community at the High School and Middle School.  Meeting dates to be announced.
High School Drama Club: Advisor– Mrs. Schneeweiss
The Hasbrouck Heights High School Drama Club brings together students who share a passion for theater and performing arts. The club promotes learning about theater through activities, trips and productions that enhance the educational goals of the theater’s discipline courses and productions. It also strives to foster an appreciation of all forms of the performing arts and provides opportunities for artistic growth within the organization itself as well as the greater school community. Membership is open to all students who share the club's goal of promoting awareness of theater and performing arts. Participation in the productions as an actor on stage is by audition only. There are opportunities to mentor the middle school students as well as the elementary school students in their productions. The spring musical is for high school students only. Drama Club is designed to develop the students’ theatrical skills in theatre work. Drama provides opportunities for student actors to develop their artistic abilities and gain a working knowledge of the Theatre Arts as well as a greater appreciation for all the Arts.  Meeting will be announced.
 
Heroes & Cool Kids: Advisors – Mrs. O’Hagan/Mrs. Christianson
Heroes & Cool Kids is a program where professional athletes train selected high school student athletes to mentor our sixth grade students. The high school leaders will then help our 6th grade students transition into the middle school setting. The program consists of 3 lesson modules. The first module discusses how to be a good friend, encourages participating in outside activities and provides time for the 6th graders to get to know their mentor through ice breakers. The second module discusses bullying and violence. The final module talks about substance abuse prevention.  Any 11th and 12th  grade athlete may apply to be a Hero by filling out an application and interview with the adult advisors, Kerrie O’Hagan ad Barbara Christianson.
Freshman Transition Project:
The Freshman Transition Project trains upper classmen to help freshman make healthy decisions in their relationships and in the way they use time and balance responsibilities. The goal of the program is to empower teens by giving them a set of experiences that promote respect for one another and responsible decision making. Any 11th and 12th grader may apply and be interviewed with the adult advisors: Elizabeth McGinty, John Van Dam, Gar Schimel, Katherine Stevenson, and Barbara Christianson.
Powerlifting Club – Advisor – Mr. Vin Barchini
The club was developed to support Heights students, faculty, and staff interested in developing strength via training specific to the sport of powerlifting. The three events used to judge an individual's strength are squat, bench press and deadlift. The team is supportive of lifters at all levels of ability and participation. Focuses of the club will be to teach all involved the proper mechanics of each compound lift in order to gain strength and avoid injury. During powerlifting meets, an individual is given three attempts at each of the three lifts. The individual who lifts the greatest total weight (sum of the best of each event) in a given body weight class wins the meet. Team members will be given the opportunity to experience this “meet like competitiveness” by performing each lift and amassing a total weight at a club event towards the end of the school year with the hopes of crowning Heights Strongest Man, both pound for pound and in total strength. The Hasbrouck Heights Powerlifting Team is in complete agreement with the standards set by the American Drug Free Powerlifting Association and will be backed by random drug testing, which all student-athletes are subject to.
The Powerlifting club will begin this winter and will meet once per week on Wednesday’s to learn technique and perform lifts.
High School Spirit Club: Advisor- Mrs. Kritzer
The role of the Spirit Club is to support those members of the student body who represent the school in varsity athletics, plays, band, and other club performances or competitions.  The Spirit Club is responsible for all activities during Spirit Week.  Any support needed such as decorating, attendance or announcements will be provided.  The Spirit Club will help and organize events that support the entire student body such as Pep Rallies, Mr. Heights or game attendance.  Any team or activity that needs support should contact the Spirit Club through its advisor.  The Spirit Club is open to all high school students.  Meetings will be held on Tuesdays as needed.  Announcements will be made for meetings.

Pilots Log – Mrs. Lora Geftic
The Pilot's Log is a project-based club in which students produce this nationally aclaimed high school publication. The newspaper is a five time winner of the prestigious Pacemaker Award, known as the Pulitizer Prize for high school journalism, a seven time winner of the National Scholastic Press Association's Best in Show Contest, and a ten time winner of Garden State Scholastic's Press Award of Excellence. Students learn marketable publication skills, develop their individual writing styles, creat pring layout, discover the techniques of desktop publishing and design and photojournalism. Students assume the role of editorial leader and take responsibility for producing a newspaper that represents a pluralistic society. Professionalism and responsibility are cornerstones of this club by emphasizing deadelines, teamwork, organizational and business skills. The ethics of journalism is stressed throughout all phases of newspaper production.
*Meetings 7:15am, first Tuesday of Month.
 
The HH Arts Club – Mrs. Karen Dolan
This club was created at the request of the high school students and is run by the High School Students.  The main objective of the club is to promote the Arts in both the Middle School and the High School. 
*The first meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 in Room 404.
 
Mock Trial: Advisors – Mr. Stillman & Mrs. Gay
Mock Trial is a competitive team activity for high schools from around the state sponsored by the NJ State Bar Foundation. Participants prepare a case provided by the Bar Foundation and compete in county, regional, statewide, and national competitions. The competition schedule will be announced when it is assigned from the State Bar Foundation. New information is always posted on the bulletin board outside of Room 216 and students should check it frequently.
 
*Meetings are on Mondays after school, and Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. in Room 216.
 
Student Council: Advisor- Ms. Cassidy
Student Council is a student organization created to help make and maintain a positive atmosphere for all Hasbrouck Heights High school students.  Its purpose is to be an effective forum for student expression regarding school matters; promoting harmonious relationships throughout the school year; provide for the orderly direction of student activities; and promoting the general welfare of the school. The purpose of this organization shall be to provide:  A means to improve student participation and communication in student activities; Opportunity and incentive for leadership; A fostering of closer relationships between the Student Government and various class governments; And a channel for student participation with faculty and administration in projects of school wide concern.
 *Meeting Dates: September 21, 2011, October 19, 2011, November 16, 2011, December 21, 2011, January 18, 2012, February 15, 2012, March 21, 2012, April 18, 2012, May 2, 2012 (1st Wednesday)May 9, 2012 (2nd Wednesday), June 6, 2012 (1st Wednesday) in room 23.

Gay-Straight Alliance: Advisor- Mr. Smith
The GSA strives to promote an open minded and accepting environment for all types of students that make up HHHS.  It is our hope that by discussing matters of social concern, we can break down stereotyping and bullying against Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender students.  As an alliance, it strives to promote similarities among all type of people.

Yearbook: Advisor- Mr. Smith
 The high school's yearbook is comprised of a selected group of juniors and seniors and is responsible for planning and putting together the high school's yearbook each year.  It is also responsible for any and all necessary fundraising that needs to take place in order to afford the yearly publication.  Interested students should see Mr. Smith in the spring before junior or senior year to obtain an application for the staff. We meet daily during the activity period.

Learn computer repair, A++ certification, virus removal, software installation, networking, gaming!  All are welcome - computer knowledge not required​

SADD: Advisor –Mrs. Christianson
The SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Club is designed to build awareness and to provide students with preventative measures when dealing with issues of drugs and alcohol, teen violence and suicide, bullying, impaired driving, HIV/AIDS,stc. The members of the SADD Club are responsible for setting a positive example for their peers through both their words and actions. The SADD Club believes that role modeling and constructive peer pressure will prevent destructive decisions and ultimately set a healthier, safer course for their lives and their classmate’s.​

The Chess Club: Advisor- Mr. Binazeski
Open to students in Grades 6-12.  Students learn how to play chess, develop playing strategies, compete against other players and compete in tournaments.​

The Key Club: Advisor – Mrs. Lewites
Key Club is an international student-led organization, which offers its members opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership. These opportunities are done through various fundraisers and numerous activities during the course of the school year. Additionally, the Key Club maintains a very close working relationship with our parent organization, the Hasbrouck Heights Kiwanis​

The Multi-Cultural Club: Advisor- Mrs. Czekaj
The Multicultural Club is designed to promote unity and celebrate diversity! By sharing the positive aspects of a variety of cultures and beliefs, we will build acceptance and tolerance. We will make the school community aware of such holidays as Dewali, Hispanic Heritage Month, and Martin Luther King’s birthday.
*Meetings will be on the first Thursday of each month, and we will hold several evening activities. 
 
 
The Stem Club: Advisor –Mr. Binazeski
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) club allow children to explore, investigate and discover STEM subjects in a stimulating learning environment, away from the constraints of the school timetable or a prescribed curriculum. They allow pupils and their club leaders to work together and explore many different ideas and activities.
Meetings will be held afterschool from 245-4pm on Thursdays twice a month in room 407
